The University of Melbourne
There
is a growing need for substantial educational and clinical training
programs in mental health to meet the shortages of trained
professionals and expertise in mental health that currently exists
in the Asia-Pacific region.
Increasingly,
it is recognised that regional partnerships involving the exchange
of expertise and clinical experience are crucial in improving mental
health care and service delivery.
The International
Unit for Asia-Pacific Clinical Psychiatry Training at the University
of Melbourne Department of Psychiatry, St. Vincent's Mental Health
incorporates the POST program and aims to deliver a substantial clinical training and service
development program in mental health for the Asia-Pacific region.
This program is facilitated by regional and institutional partnerships.
The
Unit conducts multiple roles and activities which are directed
towards the transfer of appropriate knowledge and skills to regional
countries to enhance clinical expertise, training and research
capacity, and mental health service delivery (see
Asia-Australia Mental Health).
St.
Vincent’s Mental Health (SVMH) in collaboration with The
University of Melbourne offers tailored clinical training
fellowships in mental health for overseas psychiatrists, nurses and
allied health professionals (including occupational therapy, social
work and clinical psychology).
